I am a mosaic artist focused mostly on stained glass mosaics, but exploring other media and considering many ideas. I have completed classes at the Chicago Mosaic School and taught basic level mosaic classes to all ages. I have explored some mixed media like ceramics and other found objects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The subject matter that I use for mosaics includes reoccurring themes in my work, such as water and creatures and it also include things from everyday life like breakfast sketches. As a painter and designer, the process of creating a mosaic resembles the process of simplifying a detailed drawing down to a simple graphic. Using the ideas of efficiency and minimalism in fine art represent a way to process our world of over stimulation and information over saturation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three mosaics pictured below represent three different collections of work. Bubble, Knot, Swirl is part of the collection of abstract mosaics. Breakfast at Panera is a manifestation of work for the sake of documentation. Fish Head is part of my creature collection. The abstract mosaic collection of work includes personal symbolism, formal design compositions, and way to develop mosaic technical skill. The collection of work that includes documentation is very representational. This includes any work that was created as a drawing or painting in a representational format and then reproduced again as a mosaic in a format very similar to the original drawing or painting. The creature collection is an investigation of sea creatures, bugs, spiders, mythological creatures, and imaginary creatures. I’m interested in mythology as a cultural phenomenon and as a personal human experience. I’m interested in real creatures that look like monsters. I’m interested in creatures that use things like camouflage or fly, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bubble, Knot, Swirl: Inspired by the movement of water. Water is a subject matter for me during times of transition. The challenge of creating organic shapes with solid pieces of glass continues to be an area for technical development.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
