6×6 Acrylic and Watercolor

Artist Statement:
I am a painter refining my technique and deciding on specific subject matter. I use both acrylic and watercolor. I have included things like acrylic marker and watercolor crayon in my work. I have found more control and diversity of brushstrokes and texture by using multi-media.
By painting a lot of small pieces, 6 in x 6 in, I have an opportunity to try different subject matter. In recent years, I have filled sketchbooks with ideas from a few different themes and I am still using multiple themes to explore which options are the best choices for which opportunities. These themes include monsters and mythology, landscapes and cityscapes, non-objectives art and art about words. All of these themes have developed over the last 10 years.
I have recently started teaching a variety of painting classes focused on my ideas about creativity and influenced by historical and cultural art making trends, etc. These 6×6 pieces illustrate my creative process in action, In the fall of 2024, I painted 30 in 30 days as a challenge to myself. Paint effects and subject matter emerged. My next steps are to continue this process. When I see consistent themes, etc. then they can continue to influence and guide the rest of my art making practice.
