Coming back to the art world from other areas of work, it was so important for me to inspire others using art education.
I choose one word, look at the definition and then think about how to apply it in the world. This sounds so basic as first view, but that is exactly the point. Technology has increased the speed at which we work. It has given us shorter attention spans.
The potential for technology to make it so we can let the technology do the work was a promise that never reached actuality in the way it was imagined. It has done many things that we all take advantage of including putting my art online, but it did not obtain many of its original promises. So, as I was in the work world realizing that we are not using technology as promised, I started to consider what we do with it and how it impacts different generations in different ways. I became frustrated with the results that I was seeing in the world and identified that art will help….it always does.
I found that even though, I wanted to come back to art, I no longer knew how. I was caught up in the rest of the world that technology had bum rushed us into. It was like being on a busy highway and not getting to the exit ramp. The exits kept passing me by. I had to slow myself down and change lanes one by one until I made it back to slow lane where the exits existed.
One thing that art and technology have in common is communication. The basic form of communication is a word. As a creative thinker who had done many different things, I realized that a word could change so much. The words we choose to use could make a difference. The way this word is perceived by our audience would be different depending on their experience with this word.
Creativity is a noun. It is a thing and it is a real thing that needs to be applied in every aspect of life. Technology does not exist with the creativity to use it. Art education one of the best places to learn creativity. It is near and dear to my heart.
Creativity: The ability to create
Creativity: The quality of being creative
Creative: Having the quality of something created rather than imitated
That last point was where I started my art education. Many creators do imitate and honestly, this is one part of the creative process, but it is only one part. It is not where the process ends. As I had started this journey to go down my own creative path, stopping at imitating what not my goal.
The rest of my story is on my art education page.
